Clement Lefebvre has launched the first Release Candidate for Linux Mint 17.1. "Rebecca" Cinnamon is now available for download and comes accompanied by a major update for the desktop environment.

Users have been itching to try the new 17.1 branch that was widely publicized by the developers, and now they have a chance with this latest Release Candidate. This is about more than just a few new packages and some fixes. Devs have been making quite a few modifications and the new version should provide some interesting features.

The Cinnamon flavor is considered the default one for Linux, but it's usually accompanied by the MATE edition. In any case, Linux Mint 17.1 comes with a massive Cinnamon upgrade, which is now at version 2.4. We talked about some of the new options, but now we have the possibility to see them all under one roof.

Even if this is just a Release Candidate, the system proves to be quite stable. There still are some issues with the distro and there are some good reasons why this is still under development. The developers need to have the OS tested by as many people as possible in order to fix all the issues before the launch of the stable iteration.

"Linux Mint 17.1 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use.
