After launching the Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon, MATE, and KDE flavors, the developers have now released the final version for the Xfce version.

The Linux Mint developers are best known for the Cinnamon and MATE flavors, but they are also responsible for the release of KDE and Xfce versions.

“Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment which aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly.”

“It embodies the traditional UNIX philosophy of modularity and re-usability. It consists of a number of components that provide the full functionality one can expect of a modern desktop environment. They are packaged separately and you can pick among the available packages to create the optimal personal working environment,” reads the official announcement.

The Whisker Menu has been updated to version 1.2. Numerous options have been implemented, including the option to load menu hierarchy, to not include favorites in recently used items, to set custom commands, to show recently used items by default, to position the search entry next to the panel button, and to position the command buttons next to the search entry.

Also, this latest release features better out of the box support for Pulse Audio, and the ability for users to switch back to ALSA.

Linux Mint 16 Xfce comes with the updated MDM 1.4. This version of the Log-in screen features speed improvements and an easier codebase to facilitate maintenance, a better user interface which focuses on important features, and Num-Lock support.

Other changes include an improved Update Manager, a refined interface, and various system improvements, including safer Linux kernel updates, better EFI support, better support for Steam and its addition in the repositories, and much more.
