Clement Lefebvre has announced a minutes ago, December 6, the immediate availability for download of the OEM installation images of the recently released Linux Mint 16 operating system.

Dubbed Petra, Linux Mint 16 has been officially released on November 30, 2013. It is based on Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander), uses Linux kernel 3.11, and includes the Cinnamon 2.0 and MATE 1.6 desktop environment.

"OEM images are for computer vendors and manufacturers. They allow Linux Mint to be “pre-installed” on a machine which is then used by another person than the one who performed the installation."

"After an OEM installation, the computer is set in such a way that the next reboot features a small setup screen where the new user/customer has the ability to choose his/her username, password, keyboard layout and locale," Clement Lefebvre said in the official release announcement.
