The first Release Candidate for Linux Mint 16 KDE “Petra” has been launched, and completes the collection of desktop environments for the famous distribution.

According to the developers, this edition features all the improvements from the latest Linux Mint release on top of KDE 4.11, but unfortunately the KDE looks and feels too much like the vanilla version.

Highlights of Linux Mint 16 KDE RC “Petra”: • KDE SC has been updated to version 4.11; • The Samba-mounter helps you mount network shares graphically and make them available transparently to any application by mounting them locally; • MDM has been updated to version 1.4; • A new tool has been developed to easily format USB sticks to NTFS, FAT32, and ext4; • Various performance improvements have been implemented; • The Software Manager has received many bug fixes and performance improvements.

Check the official announcement for a complete list of changes and enhancements. Download Linux Mint 16 KDE RC “Petra” right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
