The eagerly awaited Linux Mint 16 (Petra) has been released, but no official announcement has been sighted yet, just the official download links.

Linux Mint 16 “Petra” will probably be the most successful distribution in the series released so far, if we take into consideration the previous Release Candidates, which have been quite a hit.

From what we know now, Linux Mint 16 is based on Ubuntu 13.10 and Linux kernel 3.11, and comes with Cinnamon 2.0 and MATE 1.6 (different flavors).

As I said before, the official announcement hasn't been made available just yet, but the download links are now up for grabs for anyone who wants to use them.

The distribution is stable and users should have no problem installing it. We'll keep you apprised with details from the official announcement, when it becomes available.
