Linux Mint 15 MATE Linux distribution has been launched and it marks the start of a new branch.

The MATE version of Linux Mint 15 (dubbed Olivia), has been launched alongside the Cinnamon version, and it incorporates a large number of changes and improvements.

The MATE desktop environment has garnered over 1800 commits over a period of 8 months. The final result is a much better experience than GNOME 2 could have provided.

Highlights of Linux Mint 15 MATE:

• mateconf has been replaced with gsettings; • mintDesktop and mintMenu have been fully migrated to work with MATE 1.6; • Caja, the MATE file manager, has been improved; • Support has been added for MPRIS2; • New window management options have been added.
