The Beta release of Linux Lite 2.4 includes many features

Jerry Bezencon, the creator of the Linux Lite computer operating system, has announced the immediate availability for download and testing of the Beta release of the upcoming Linux Lite 2.4 distribution. While the stable version of Linux Lite is 2.2, the 2.4 Beta release brings all sorts of new features, updated applications, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

Prominent features of Linux Lite 2.4 Beta include support for Microsoft’s exFAT file system, support for Android MTP file system, support for VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections, NTP (Network Time Protocol) support, as well as various enhancements to several built-in components, including Lite Software, Lite Tweaks, Network Share Settings, and Install Updates.

“With the release of Linux Lite 2.4 Beta, we continue to evolve into a fully featured, lightweight free operating system. There are enhancements to Lite Software, Install Updates, Lite Tweaks and Network Share Settings,” says Jerry Bezencon. “There is added support for exFAT, Android MTPFS, VPN connections and NTP to name a few.”

A new wallpaper has been added in Linux Lite 2.4 Beta, and many bugs fixed

In addition to the above, Linux Lite 2.4 Beta adds a new wallpaper, adds thumbnail previews to the Thunar file manager, changes the theme of the Terminal application, updates the WhiskerMenu to the latest version, fixes an issue with syslog where auth.log was not logged, and addresses an issues with backups popping up randomly.

The Windows key (Super key) is now used in the distribution to open up the Menu, however, it doesn’t work in the Live version. Moreover, the screensaver and screen off functions have been disabled in this release, and obsolete PPAs have been removed from this Beta release of the forthcoming Linux Lite 2.4 operating system.

Please keep in mind that this is an unstable release that should not be installed on production machines.
