This is long-term support version, just like Ubuntu 14.04

The final version of Linux Lite 2.2, a distribution based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS created to show people just how easy it is for non-technical folks to use a Linux distribution, has finally arrived and it's packed with a lot of changes and improvements.

Linux Lite distros have been based on Ubuntu LTS edition and this is the main reason why we see new versions of the OS so rarely. In fact, Linux Lite usually pops up on a two-year cycle and the devs have more than enough time to make all the necessary changes. It's pretty different from the Ubuntu base and it's a lot lighter, so users will find it more than interesting.

Just like Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, the Linux Lite distro will also get the same prolonged support period that is scheduled to end in 2019. This is a regular thing for Ubuntu users and Linux Lite fans will be able to enjoy their favorite OS for a lot longer.

Linux Lite 2.2 has an interesting approach

Users will immediately notice that the desktop of Linux Lite is actually quite familiar, at least from a design point of view. It's not trying to revolutionize anything and it wants to be functional and ready for use, above all else.

It's also a great stepping stone for Windows users that are disappointed in their product. It's easy to just open the system and use it, no matter the platform you're coming from.

"This release is a product of the incredible contributions from both the community and the developers. We've added Backups a very simple to use backup utility, Date & Time, File Search and our newest members to the Linux Lite software family, Lite Cleaner - an easy to use point and click system cleaner and Lite Welcome - greets you on first boot, gives useful information about Linux Lite including Updates, Support and Development, we've also added Light Locker as the new default screen locker."

"There are also improvements to Install Additional Software, allowing you to choose multiple programs at once to install. There is also 'Check Install Media' that has been added to the Live boot menu and finally, we've added some community created Linux Lite themed wallpapers," is noted on the official forums.
