On February 1, Canonical has published in a security notice details about a new Linux kernel update for its Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system.

The previous kernel update for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (3.2.0-36/3.2.0-36.57) introduced a regression, which made the inotify/fanotify program to stop working.

The issue can be fixed if you upgrade your system(s) to the linux-image-3.2.0-37 (3.2.0-37.58) package(s). To apply the update, run the Update Manager application, or follow the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Upgrades.

Don't forget to reboot your computer after the upgrade, and remember that you will have to manually recompile installed third-party kernel modules.

More details about this kernel update for Precise Pangolin can be found in the official security notice from the Ubuntu.com website.
