Greg Kroah-Hartman, the renown kernel maintainer, had the pleasure of announcing on July 9 the immediate availability for download of Linux kernel 3.4.98 LTS (Long Term Support).

Linux kernel 3.4.98 LTS is here to introduce better support for the PowerPC (PPC) computer architecture, several updated wireless, Radeon, ACPI, SCSI, and USB drivers, improvements to the CIFS and NFS filesystems, as well as networking enhancements, especially for Bluetooth and Wireless.

“I'm announcing the release of the 3.4.98 kernel. All users of the 3.4 kernel series must upgrade. The updated 3.4.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.4.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary,” Greg Kroah-Hartman said in the official release announcement for Linux kernel 3.4.98 LTS.

Linux kernel 3.4.98 LTS comes along with the Linux kernels 3.10.48 LTS, 3.14.12 LTS, and 3.15.5. All users of the Linux kernel 3.4 series are urged to update their system to this maintenance release as soon as it is available on the software repositories of their Linux operating systems.

The Linux kernel 3.4.98 LTS sources are available for download right now from Softpedia. Be aware, though, that they require manual configuration and compilation prior to installation.
