After having announced the release of Linux kernel 4.0.5, Greg Kroah-Hartman has had the pleasure of informing us about the immediate availability for download of Linux kernel 3.14.44 LTS.

The 3.14 kernel series is an LTS (Long Term Support) release that is supported with security patches and bug fixes for a longer period than regular kernel releases are. Thus, it is recommended for deployment in very stable production environments.

According to the changelog, Linux kernel 3.14.44 LTS is here to update numerous drivers, especially for ATA, general-purpose input/output (GPIO), hwmon, MD, MMC, Wireless, SCSI, TTY, USB, and Xen hardware.

Additionally, the new maintenance release of Linux 3.14 kernel fixes several issues about the ARM, PowerPC (PPC), s390, and x86 architectures, and improves the jbd2, OMFS, and EXT4 file systems. Various sound and networking updates are also included.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.44 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 3.14 kernel series are urged to update as soon as possible

As usual, it is recommended to update your Linux kernel packages as soon as the new version arrives in the official software repositories of your GNU/Linux operating system. Therefore, we always recommend keeping your distribution up to date at all times.

Distribution vendors are urged to update the Linux kernel packages in their OS if they're using the 3.14 kernel series, simply by downloading the Linux kernel 3.14.44 LTS sources right now via Softpedia or from the kernel.org website. The rest of the world should wait for the new version to become live in their OSes.
