After releasing the Linux kernels 3.19.5 and 3.10.75 LTS, Greg Kroah-Hartman had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability of Linux kernel 3.14.39, an LTS (Long Term Support) version that is currently maintained for a couple of years with security patches, drivers updates, and bugfixes.

According to the mailing list announcement published on April 20 by kernel developer Greg Kroah-Hartman, the Linux 3.14.39 LTS kernel is a small maintenance release that includes mostly driver updates, especially for USB, PCI, ACPI, SCSI, iSCSI, Block, InfiniBand, iiO, CpuIdle, DMA, GPU (Radeon), Media, Wireless, and TTY devices.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.39 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary"

All users of the 3.14 kernel series are urged to upgrade as soon as possible

In addition to the above, Linux kernel 3.14.39 LTS fixes a sync issue with the OCFS2 file system, fixes a crash in TCP Fast Open, addresses a use-after-free bug in the CIFS file system, simplifies the insert_orphan_item function in the Btrfs file system, adds support for Creative USB X-Fi Pro SB1095's volume knob, and adds a workaround for the reboot issue of the ASRock Q1900DC-ITX mainboard.

As noted in the quote above by Greg Kroah-Hartman, all users of the 3.14 kernel series are urged to upgrade as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the packages become available in the official software repositories of their Linux kernel-based operating systems. If you want to compile the kernel yourself, you can download Linux kernel 3.14.39 LTS right now from kernel.org or via Softpedia.
