Now that the 3.14 branch of the Linux kernel has been declared LTS (Long Term Support), which means that it will be supported for a few years with patches, updated drivers, and general improvements, a new maintenance version is available for download.

Linux kernel 3.14.12 LTS brings better support for ARM, ARM64, and x86 architectures numerous updated drivers, improvements for the EXT4, CIFS, and NFS file systems, as well as networking and sound enhancements. It was released along with the Linux kernels 3.4.98 LTS, 3.10.48 LTS, and 3.15.5, for which we have separate blog articles on Softpedia.

“I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.12 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade. The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary,” Greg Kroah-Hartman said in the official release announcement for Linux kernel 3.14.12 LTS.

As usual, do not hesitate to check the official changelog (see link above) for details about the bug fixes, improvements, and updated drivers brought by the twelfth maintenance release of Linux kernel 3.14.

While you can always download the Linux kernel 3.14.12 LTS sources from Softpedia and compile it yourself, it is best to wait until it is thoroughly tested by the maintainers of your Linux distribution and available for update from the default software repositories.
