A maintenance release that brings numerous changes

Jiri Slaby has announced today the immediate availability for download of the Linux kernel 3.12.39, an LTS (Long Term Support) release aimed at servers and embedded devices where stability is extremely important. This maintenance release of Linux 3.12 kernel includes a great number of changes and updated drivers.

The list of changes is quite impressive and it would be impossible for us to list everything here, so we will mention only the important stuff. Therefore, Linux kernel 3.12.39 LTS brings many improvements to the ARM, Arc, ARM64, AVR32, ia64, CRIS, FRV, m68k, metag, MicroBlaze, MN10300, MIPS, OpenRISC, PA-RISC, s390, PowerPC, TILE, SH, SPARC, Score, x86, and Xtensa architectures.

“I'm announcing the release of the 3.12.39 kernel. All users of the 3.12 kernel series must upgrade. The updated 3.12.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary,” says Jiri Slaby in the mailing list announcement.

Numerous drivers have been updated and other improvements implemented

In addition to the above, numerous drivers have been updated for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI), Bluetooth (ath3k, btusb), CPUFreq, EDAC, General-purpose input/output (GPIO), DRM (Radeon R600), Industrial I/O (IIO), HID, InfiniBand, dm-raid, dm-snap, MMC, Wireless (ath5k, ath6kl, iwlwifi, SCSI (be2iscsi), iSCSI, PCI, Power (88pm860x, bq24190), TTY, USB (EHCI, xHCI, MUSB, Serial), and Xen.

Last but not least, several file systems received improvements, including Btrfs, Autofs4, Debugfs, JFFS2, NFS, NILFS2, OCFS2, PROC, and XFS.
