Immediately after having informed users about the availability of Linux kernel 4.0.5 and Linux kernel 3.14.44 LTS, Greg Kroah-Hartman has had the pleasure of announcing the release of a new maintenance version for the Linux 3.10 kernel series.

According to the attached shortlog, Linux kernel 3.10.80 LTS is here to update lots of drivers, especially for things like ATA, ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface), GPU (Intel i915), hwmon, MD, MMC, Wireless, staging, target, and USB.

The ARM, x86, PPC (PowerPC), and s390 architectures have received updates as well, and there are several networking and sound improvements too. Additionally, the omfs and EXT4 file system have been enhanced. More details can be found in the diff attached to the release announcement.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.10.80 kernel. All users of the 3.10 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.10.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the 3.10 kernel series must update as soon as possible

Greg Kroah-Hartman urges all users of the 3.10 kernel branch to update their installations as soon as possible. Of course, the announcement is mostly for kernel maintainers and distribution vendors, who need to download the Linux kernel 3.10.80 LTS sources right now via Softpedia or from the kernel.org website and compile them.

The rest of the world should wait patiently for the new Linux 3.10.80 kernel packages to arrive on the official software repositories of their GNU/Linux operating systems and then update. If you have zero knowledge of compiling a kernel, do not attempt on updating it yourself, because you might crash your stable installation.
