Linux stopped being just an operating system long time ago. In the past few years it became a real trend. Due to the awareness of its highly true potential and the numerous exquisite features, Linux has become unstoppable, spreading like a phenomenon around all seven continents. If there are some areas were it has not strongly broken through it will sure do it in the nearest future.

The big players on the open source segment and generally from the IT market, started planning various strategies for pushing Linux everywhere its presence was not exactly felt so good. Thus, names such as IBM, Oracle, NEC or Dell were seen more and more often on every news channel, announcing exciting initiatives. For example IBM, Oracle and NEC, to which other major IT companies would join pretty soon, have formed a consortium through which they should facilitate the Linux server and systems sales in Japan.

A report released by CCID Consulting, located in Beijing claim that the Linux operating sales have increased by 31% in the first quarter of 2007 against the similar period of the previous year. This ascending trend maintains according to the estimated increasing rate, forecast by IDC in the "China Linux 2006-2010 Forecast and Analysis" report for 2006-2010.

One of the biggest Linux fans in China would be the Chinese government itself, followed by the financial-services and the telecom sectors. Linux still owns a small market share in China, but things are going to be improved, as the Linux vendors have already started planning strategies for their development in this area too. Names such as Red Hat, Novell or TurboLinux can be counted among the companies providing the largest financial services rollouts.
