Only two days have passed and the campaign is a success

Jolla is a new tablet developed by a team of people who used to work for Nokia and it's powered by a Linux-driver operating system called Sailfish OS. The recently launched crowdfunding campaign has surpassed any expectations.

The tablet market has been saturated by hundreds of different models. Most for them are actually really bad and they should not even be considered for purchase, but Apple, Google, Samsung, and a few others managed to take over the market share with their products.

Despite reaching an obvious choke point, with just too many alternatives on the market that are just marginally different, it looks like there is still room for a new entry.

The guys and gals who are making the new Jolla tablet have worked for Nokia, but when the company changed owners, many of the employees went their own way.

They formed a team that is now trying to break through the communities preconceptions about new tablets and operating systems. So far, it looks like they are having great success.

Successful Jolla Tablet crowdfunding campaign is successful

The makers of the Jolla tablet wanted $380,000 (€300,000), but they managed to get more than $1 million (€805,000) in just two days.

Thousands of people have already pledged to buy the tablet, which is expected to arrive in May 2015, and it's likely that they will manage to get even more by week's end.

"We have reached our goal in a little over 2 hours - the #JollaTablet is happening! Our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who have contributed. The first two batches of Jolla Tablets are sold out, and we have introduced the next batch of 2000. Please stay tuned for future updates and share the love for the world's first crowdsourced Jolla Tablet with your friends and family! #PeoplePowered success!" said the Jolla team in the first update on Indiegogo.

The Jolla Tablet features a 64-bit Quad-Core Intel 1.8 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32GB of space, SD slot, a 7.85-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 and 330 DPI, a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front camera, and a 4300 mAh battery.

It's powered by Sailfish OS 2.0, which is actually based on Linux. It's a combination of open source software and proprietary solutions, which is radically different from what Android and iOS are currently providing. The icing on the cake is that Sailfish is able to run Android apps through a compatibility layer.

We'll keep you apprised with any news on the Jolla front, as they become available.
