Linus Torvalds talked a little about the upcoming SteamOS and about its possible effects in the Linux world during LinuxCon Europe in Edinburgh.

Valve has announced its intention to release a gaming-oriented Linux distribution called SteamOS. During the LinuxCon Europe conference in Edinburgh, Linus Torvalds was asked about this initiative.

“It's the best model for standardization. Standards should not be people sitting in a smoky room… and writing papers. It's being successful enough to drive the market,” he said.

The Linux maintainer and developer thinks that Valve made this distribution a standard for people who want to have gaming on their platforms.

He didn't say anything about their chances of success and he didn't comment on their ideas, but you can rest assured that he's going to test it and he will be blunt, just like he has been on so many occasions.
