On March 3, Linus Torvalds announced the immediate availability for the first release candidate in the 3.9 branch of the Linux kernel.

As usual, Linus Torvalds explained, in a very colorful way, the ups and downs of the development, stating that the reasons for the delay were some heart-stopping bugs.

“I don't know if it's just me, but this merge window had more "Uhhuh" moments than I'm used to. I stopped merging a couple of times, because we had bugs that looked really scary, but thankfully each time people were on them like paparazzi on Justin Bieber,” said Torvalds in the release announcement.

More details about the updates and the new features in the kernel can be found in the official announcement. Download Linux kernel 3.9 RC1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it is intended for testing purposes only.
