The creator of the Linux kernel should make more of these videos

Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, is not only a maintainer and a programmer, he is also the public image of the kernel. He is a rather flamboyant character and he breaks the pattern once in a while, giving the Linux community something to talk about.

Linus Torvalds is not someone who just does his job and shuts up. He expresses his opinions on a number of issues, but the most interesting ones are about the kernel and the development process. He's also very funny, but he can be mean (with good intentions) sometimes, which makes watching the kernel development process a very interesting activity.

Because of his high profile in the Linux community, Linus' opinions are usually listened with great attention and his keynotes are generally very interesting, especially during the Q&A parts. He will always be remembered for giving the finger to NVIDIA, for example.

It's not certain if that particular gesture, which occurred a couple of years ago, made any difference, but NVIDIA is now pushing out drivers much more frequently than before and they have become (more or less) an upstanding member of the Linux community.

He also happens to work for the Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes Linux, among other things. Somehow, they managed to get Linus in front of a camera and convinced him to read some mean tweets out loud.

“Taking a page from Jimmy Kimmel's Mean Tweets series, The Linux Foundation asked Linux creator Linus Torvalds to read some of the community's more colorful tweets. Of course, Linus adds his very own commentary,” reads the clip's description on YouTube.

Unfortunately, he only reads three, but one of them really stands out. Someone made a comment about his crowning achievement, the kernel or GIT, but he seemed really certain that people are not limited to just one crowning achievement and that he can do both.

Linus Torvalds always brings a little spice to the kernel development cycle and many users would like to see him in public more, talking about the things he's making. Being such a busy man, it's likely that he spends most of this time accepting patches for the kernel and doesn't really love the camera.

In other news, the latest Linux kernel 3.16 RC8 was just released and Linus is preparing for 3.16, so don't hold your breath for more angry tweets read by the man himself.
