Linus Torvalds is one of the most influential people in the Linux world and among the most active figures that promote open source as a real alternative.

Linus Torvalds is a software engineer and he's responsible for the Linux kernel. Strangely enough, the name of his project wasn't chosen by him. In any case, version 0.01 of Linux was released back in 1991 and has been growing ever since.

Today is his birthday and Linus has chosen to celebrate this event with a picture on Google Plus, accompanied by a picture that suggests that he’s about to take a night swim in a frozen lake.

Whatever he's doing right now, we wish him to return safely and continue his amazing work on the Linux kernel.

Happy Birthday Linus Torvalds!
