The rumored late-February Apple event dismissed

Another day, another unconfirmed rumor. I don't know anymore... The more rumors emerge, the more Apple seems to be doing nothing spectacular. Is it the great number of rumors or is it Apple themselves to blame? Anyway, the Linkin Park thing, with the secret Apple event...? Yeah, this one's a no-no too.

Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park made "the big announcement" on his blog, while expressing his gratitude towards their fans in Germany: "in other news, we're in the middle of the tour with coheed and cambria and chiodos. it's going great-those guys put on a great show. looking forward to our first show at madison square garden this week (sold out)! also, look forward to a special show that we're doing in NYC in conjunction with apple?shh?it's a secret?"

Linkin' everything to everything, it finally looked like Apple's rumored event was taking shape. Then came worldofapple.com and burst the bubble: "Following reports that Linkin Park were set to play at a secret Apple Event, it appears that this secret event was simply a six song midnight set at the Apple Store SoHo in New York."

Yes, as thedailyswarm.com confirmed too (pictures and all), this morning saw Linkin Park playing a six-song midnight set at the Soho Apple store in New York. The songs...:"Wake", "Given Up", "Shadow of the Day", "My December" (my personal favorite), "In Pieces", "Bleed It Out".

Clever blokes over at Ars Technica even hinted (before the show) that the set for the 200 radio contest winners would probably be recorded for a future release via iTunes. Well, kill the lights and flood the toilet. I feel like crap for being so na?ve.

Here's some footage from the event below. (Chester knows his stuff alright, no wonder kids love these guys). Oh, and sorry for those who got their hopes up for an Apple product-showcasing.
