Grammy winning rock band Linkin Park has recently teamed up with environmental group the World Wildlife Fund (WWF, for short) and has launched a fundraising campaign intended to raise the money needed to provide people living in a village in Nepal with access to biogas technology.

Look to the Stars details that, presently, some 8 million people live in Nepal's Terai Arc Region, and very few of them have access to electricity. The result it that, more often than not, they resort to wood for cooking, keeping warm and meeting other needs.

“In Nepal, electricity is a privilege unavailable to most poor families in the Terai Arc Region. Because of this, they rely on thousands of pounds of wood a year for cooking.”

“This leads to a huge number of trees being cut down, wildlife losing their habitat and women and children becoming sick or dying prematurely due to smoke inhalation,” the band members explain on the official website for Music for Relief, a non-profit organization that they themselves have founded.

More precisely, reports have shown that, each year, the average individual living in Nepal burns some 2,000 pounds (about 907 kilograms) of wood.

This makes for a lot of smoke and its accompanying health problems, not to mention a noteworthy decline in local forest coverage.

And probably some very sad wild animals, seeing how waking up one morning to find that your home has been burned by people wishing to make some stew isn't something to look forward to.

By comparison, biogas does not release loads of greenhouse gas emissions when burnt, and is made from human and animal waste, meaning that forests and its dwellers would no longer have anything to worry about.

Those who help the band raise $565 (€413.2) for this campaign by asking others to lend a helping hand can win two tickets to an upcoming Linkin Park show.

“Each person who raises $565 (the average cost of one biogas system) by November 22nd is entered to win two tickets to see Linkin Park at a SUPER SECRET SHOW in January,” the band promises.
