Yup, Apple's (now formerly) rumored event set for the end of February is such a big secret that we know it's in New York City for one, and that Linkin Park will be warming up the crowd as well. Mike Shinoda himself made the big announcement on his blog, while expressing his gratitude towards their fans in Germany.

"today, we won our second german 'echo' award! for those of you in the US, this is the equivalent of the grammy. thanks germany!" - says Linkin Park's MC.

And then comes the big news (for Apple fans anyway): "in other news, we're in the middle of the tour with coheed and cambria and chiodos. it's going great-those guys put on a great show. looking forward to our first show at madison square garden this week (sold out)! also, look forward to a special show that we're doing in NYC in conjunction with apple?shh?it's a secret?"

Mike Shinoda was born to a Japanese father and a Russian mother who is reportedly a distant descendant of composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Shinoda is also the main figure of Fort Minor, a hip hop ensemble and side project created by Mike himself.

Just a few days ago, news broke out that Apple was not going to feature a booth at NAB, while sources on the web were hinting at a late-February Apple event, which the Cupertino-based corporation hasn't confirmed of course. In fact, they haven't said a thing about it to this day and let Mike Shinoda make the big announcement. Or did they...?

The way I remember it, Apple was rumored to host a product event, so announcing it now would be a bit too late. Plus, "... in conjunction with apple..." can mean anything from advertising the Air some more to the fruit itself, so let's just wait for the Cupertino folks to clear the air.
