The team behind LinkedIn, the business oriented social networking site, has just announced the launch of the Android application. LinkedIn for Android is still in its beta stages, but the company insisted to release a testing version just in time for the holidays and will use the feedback received to improve it.

This is the first public beta mobile application developed by LinkedIn and the company plans to launch more features in the upcoming versions of its mobile app.

Speaking about the mobile LinkedIn app, Chad Whitney, Product Manager at LinkedIn said: “Given the demand, we wanted to get this out to you for the holidays and look forward to hearing from you what works and what new features and scenarios you’d like to see in future versions.”

LinkedIn for Android Beta app comes with a wide range of features such as:

- View updates from your professional network; - Search for people to discover things you have in common and establish new connections; - Respond to invitations sent from people in your professional life; - Keep in touch with your own connections on LinkedIn. The development team plans to deliver updated versions of the Beta app in the near future, as well as the popular “People You May know” feature, which is not yet available for Android devices.

“Staying connected to your professional network is one of the most important activities we offer on the new LinkedIn Android app,” said Whitney.

“In our Beta app, you can view your connection updates from the Updates screen. These include newly established connections, changes to people's profiles, and important articles and information being shared,” he added.

LinkedIn for Android Beta is compatible with devices running Android 2.1 or newer. Fans of the social networking site are required to join the company's new LinkedIn for Android group to be able to download and install the application.

Instructions on how to download the app and get started will be received, as soon as the user joins the above mentioned LinkedIn for Android group.
