So Lindsay Lohan finally made her West End stage debut in London, an event that was highly anticipated and which she promoted furiously over and over again, naming it her big return to acting. Unfortunately for her, the first night of the performance disappointed fans and was called a “disaster” by reviewers.

The play was “Speed the Plow” by David Mamet and The Daily Beast says Lindsay had serious trouble remembering the lines, which affected her performance in a negative way. The reviewer points out that usually the first night of any performance is expected to be a little rough around the edges, but in Lindsay's case, that was an understatement.

Lindsay had trouble remembering her lines, the audience is brought to laughter

It turns out that Lindsay struggled to grasp Mamet's sharp, trademark dialogue, that she had the audience break out in giggles at first but soon grew to all-out laughter.

A woman in the audience was later quoted as saying “Oh my god, it's so embarrassing.” Even her serious lines drew laughter from the audiences, something you don't want when performing your serious play.

The 28-year-old American actress has been pushing the London scene for some months now and it was believed that a favorable presence on the stage might actually turn around her dwindling acting career.

If the critics were somewhat willing to overlook some of the mishaps because it was a first night performance, the people in the audience were not as kind. Several took to Twitter to bash Lindsay relentlessly.

The audience takes to Twitter to blast the actress

“So Lindsay Lohan had her lines written down in a book & also got fed a line. Total car crash,” tweeted one woman after the show.

This is probably the worst-case scenario for Lindsay, who, in previous interviews, dreaded the first performance the most. She prophetically said that she was probably going to forget all the lines due to stage fright, and that's exactly what happened.

Critics are willing to give Lohan another shot

The general consensus is that Lindsay can perform better in the future, as the locals seem genuinely interested in giving LiLo a fair shot at acting on stage and bringing back her career.

The reviews of the first performance, though poor, were to be expected, since Lindsay had a hectic rehearsals schedule, made even more complicated by the fact that she kept a very active social life in the meantime, holding first page of several British tabloids on a regular basis with her exploits.
