She relied on cue cards too much, had supporting roles, wasn't funny

Lindsay Lohan was supposed to make her big comeback over the weekend, as she hosted Saturday Night Live. While the gig has already opened many doors for her in the industry, which translates into movie offers, critics were far from impressed with her performance.

Entertainment Weekly even proposes that she be up for the worst host of the year title. She only had supporting roles, relied on cue cards too much (and it was obvious), and was – simply put – not funny.

On the show, Lindsay played herself and mocked the legal troubles she's been working on for the past few years, and it wasn't enough, EW believes.

“Lohan herself was mostly pushed to the background for the show, usually appearing in unchallenging supporting roles in sketches,” the e-zine writes.

“The show winked at Lohan’s history of legal troubles in the monologue – Lohan got a pat-down from Kristen Wiig – and in a new 'Scared Straight' sketch, in which Lohan played herself. (In that sketch, Lohan’s dependency on cue cards became excruciatingly clear during a long soliloquy.),” EW adds.

“A visiting Jon Hamm was officially named the night’s back-up host, and the Mad Men star arguably got a bigger laugh for his brief appearance as Snooki’s baby daddy than Lohan got all night,” adds the report.

Elsewhere too, critics were not impressed, ContactMusic reports.

TV Line writes that, while everyone seemed to be rooting for Lindsay, fate worked against her with a combination of bad sketches and her unwillingness to put an honest effort into them.

The Huffington Post was equally unimpressed but it points out that bigger fails have been seen on SNL. Then again, the stint did the job, in the sense that it put Lohan back on the map, though she still has a long way to go until she's back to her former glory.

“In essence, this was hardly a disaster on par with, say, Lana Del Rey. But Lohan also didn't fully reclaim her status as a young comic performer worthy of casting in major Hollywood projects,” The Post writes.

Fans, though, believe she did just fine.
