14 DAY TRIAL // Lindsay Lohan is still having a hard time coming to terms with the 90-day jail sentence she was served with the other day for violating her parole. As buzz is picking up that she believes the sentence was unjust and an abuse, and she’s thinking of having it appealed, her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley tried to do some damage control before she left what she must have believed was a sinking ship, E! Online informs.
As we also reported yesterday, Lindsay showed up in court with brightly painted fingernails, which, in itself, is not a big thing and certainly not a crime. However, on the nail of her middle finger, Lindsay had painted in black the words “[Expletive] U” and she repeatedly raised her fingers to her mouth as if directing the cuss to the judge. At least, that’s how the entire media interpreted her gesture, but Chapman disagrees: should a zoom lens not have been used, no one would have noticed what Lohan had on her fingernail, she said shortly before stepping down as the actress’ legal representative.
“The fact is, the words could barely be seen by the naked eye. That a courtroom camera, purportedly there to accurately chronicle the proceedings, would use a telephoto lens to zoom in as it did to Ms. Lohan’s fingernail is a commentary on the entire issue,” Chapman said. She then went on to explain how the sentence Lohan got was a bit too harsh for the crime committed – but she would serve it either way because Lindsay is not one not to comply with the court’s orders.
“Lohan and I are extremely disappointed in the sentence handed down by Judge Revel. We believe that the penalty is far harsher than what others would have received under the circumstances. The reality is that Ms. Lohan, like most defendants, had to balance work commitments with court requirements. To be punished so severely for doing so, particularly in light of the fact that she substantially complied with each of her probationary conditions, is harsh and unfair. That said, Ms. Lohan is prepared to serve her jail time and to comply with the Court’s orders,” the attorney also said in the same statement.
After this was issued, Chapman delivered the coup de grace to her client by stepping down from the case, presumably by choice, TMZ informs. Inside sources claim Lindsay will be represented now by Tiffany Feder-Cohen, who was admitted to the bar this past November and who is already working on the appeal to the “unfair” sentence.
