Lindsay Lohan's comeback officially started with her hosting Saturday Night Live at the beginning of March this year. The only reason it was so poorly received by critics, her father believes, is because she was on drugs at the time.

Critics pointed out that the Lindsay they saw on SNL wasn't the Lindsay they had first caught a glimpse of in her earlier work.

Michael Lohan, the star's estranged father, provides an explanation for that: she wasn't acting at her full potential because she was numbed by prescription drugs she really doesn't need.

“I have to say this… on SNL, Lindsay was not using any illicit drugs or drinking but she still is on prescription drugs that they gave her,” Mr. Lohan says in a statement to Celebrity VIP Lounge.

“And the meds that they give her are meds that they say she needs, but she doesn’t need them. But they kind of make her flat. She’s not acting at a full potential. It’s like the screen is down over her,” he adds.

Fans of the legally troubled star must already know that Lindsay and her dad don't really have a relationship, since she disowned him when he started talking trash about her and her mom Dina to the press.

Whether this is one of those cases we can't say, but Michael Lohan claims he was instrumental in Lindsay's “true” comeback on “Glee,” where she played herself.

“And now when she did Glee I said, 'Linds, get off the damn medication and let people see who you really are.' And for a couple days before Glee, she went off this stuff,” he says.

“And there were tears in my eyes when I watched Glee. THAT was Lindsay. Yeah that was her acting. That is Lindsay Lohan at The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Mean Girls potential. That is what she was,” Lohan explains.

Lindsay's actual comeback won't happen until her first film in many years, the made for TV Elizabeth Taylor biopic “Liz & Dick,” which starts shooting this week, is out.

As a side note, her “Glee” role wasn't welcomed with warm reviews either.
