Back in 2009, after a series of very violent fights that often ended only when police arrived, Lindsay Lohan broke up from her DJ girlfriend Samantha Ronson. She’s now saying the relationship should have never happened in the first place.

In a new interview with the US media cited by the Daily Mail, the actress, who is now promoting her Lifetime film “Liz & Dick,” says the highly mediated romance was doomed from the start because neither was good for the other.

They both had “toxic” personalities, which made the relationship “toxic,” which, in turn, doomed it to failure.

Mostly because of this experience, but also because she’s now focusing on getting her career back on track, Lindsay is determined to stay single, at least for a while.

“I need to love myself first before I could be with anyone else, and I was going through a lot,” she says of being with Samantha.

“Two toxic people cannot be together. End of story. We're friends now. That's how it started so I think that's how it was meant to be,” she explains.

Lindsay can talk about the breakup now but, at the time, it wasn’t that easy for her, as she admitted in an older interview as well. Also difficult was coming out of the closet.

“I was bold enough to say, ‘Yeah, I like a girl. And?’ That put her in a situation where she was being attacked every day,” she recalls.

“That's not fair. And what am I left with? Heartbreak. That was three years ago. It was my last serious relationship,” Lohan adds.

As we also informed you these past couple of weeks, Lindsay has everything riding on “Liz & Dick” because chances are she won’t be getting another second chance in the movie industry.

Unfortunately for her, many critics have already made up their mind about the biopic: it’s trash and it won’t mark any comeback for Lindsay at all.
