Lindsay Lohan has already said she claims no responsibility for the terrible car crash she was involved in over the weekend, when she slammed her Porsche into an 18-wheeler. Even so, she's not out of the woods yet, especially since there's indication she might have lied to the cops.

The actress totaled a rental Porsche by driving it into a mini-truck, telling officers that the other driver cut her off and that, for some reason, her brakes failed her.

At the same time, the truck driver claimed that he was innocent and that Lindsay was speeding and possibly on drugs.

TMZ has now learned that Lindsay also lied to police officers, initially telling them that she wasn't driving the car at the time of the crash, but that her personal assistant was.

Lying to the police is a crime and, if the report turns out to be true, Lindsay is liable to be found in violation of her parole and be sent to jail.

“Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, Lindsay Lohan lied to cops Friday by telling them she was NOT driving the Porsche that slammed into a truck on the Pacific Coast Highway, and as a result she could be prosecuted and her probation could be revoked,” the celebrity e-zine writes.

After the crash, Lohan was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, which is when officers from the Santa Monica Police Department came to question her about the crash, and possibly determine what caused it.

“Lindsay told police she was a passenger in the Porsche and her assistant was driving. But the lie didn't stick because later Lindsay's assistant told police Lindsay was behind the wheel,” TMZ notes.

Lohan's PA was also in the hospital, being treated for minor injuries.

“We're told police are writing up a report that will include Lindsay's lie. It's a crime to provide false info to a police officer. In addition, lying to police could trigger a probation violation in her shoplifting case, which means she faces the possibility of jail on 2 fronts,” TMZ writes.

Moreover, Lindsay's behavior after the crash seems to indicate that she was determined not to have her name involved in the scandal she must have known would ensue.

“Several eyewitnesses at the scene tell TMZ, after the crash Lindsay and her assistant both got out of the car on the passenger side, which means Lindsay had to climb over the console. It appears Lindsay had concocted the lie almost immediately after impact,” notes the same media outlet.

The other day, the truck driver also said that he believed Lohan was carrying drugs at the time of the crash, since her PA rushed to have a pink bag removed from the scene – with Lindsay's people instructing him not to mention it to the police.
