Lindsay Lohan’s most recent brush with politics (international, no less) has ended in mockery and criticism directed at her, after she tweeted a message of support for Brazilian presidential candidate Aecio Neves.

Neves’ name is linked to the second biggest drug bust of 2014, when the Brazilian Federal Police seized a helicopter filled with cocaine.

Lohan, a recovering drug addict and alcoholic, who has been said to travel the world to party with rich businessmen who can provide her with cocaine, should not be endorsing one such politician, least of all on a public platform like Twitter.

Lohan knows she messed up because she deleted the messages quickly

“I support @aecioNeves, for presidential candidature. His platform brings positive changes in Brazil,” Lohan tweeted to her 8.57 million followers. Within minutes, though, she’d deleted her message, reportedly after several of her followers had already picked up on the Neves drug connection and the sketchy reason Lohan have been endorsing him.

It wasn’t enough, though. As we speak, celebrity bloggers are still mocking her, saying she endorsed the guy with the biggest cocaine supply because, despite claims that she cleaned up her life for good, she’s still partying “like a rock star,” taking drugs and drinking like there’s no tomorrow.

Some voices online even say that her move to London, where she’s appearing in the play “Speed the Plow” in the hope that it might reboot her career, is mainly influenced by the possibility of partying like before, without getting too much attention.

Whichever the reason she tweeted her support of Neves, Lindsay clearly realized she shouldn’t have, or else she wouldn’t have deleted the tweets.

The explanation: her “Brazil contacts” like Neves

TMZ reports that sources close to the actress claim that drugs had nothing to do with her endorsement: she just tweeted that because her “Brazilian contacts” like Neves and believe he would make a great President.

“She's supporting the guy because ‘she has plenty of contacts there and has several business trips to the country.’ The source also says she has a ‘good contact’ in Brazil who likes Neves a lot,” the report notes.

And what about that massive drug bust? Not a word, but here’s what happened: when the Federal Police seized the helicopter, they found 440 kg (970 pounds) of “pasta base” of cocaine, estimated at $4.8 million (€3.79 million). Turned into powder cocaine and cut, the value of the load would have gone up 10 times that amount.

The helicopter was owned by a company listed in the name of Gustovo Perrella, a House of Deputies member, son of Zeze Perrella, a close associate and partner of Neves. It is believed Perrella acted as front for Neves in the failed drug deal.

That is a very nasty spot Lindsay put herself on, no matter which way you look at it.
