Lindsay Lohan claims that her Twitter account has been compromised by unknown individuals, who posted rogue content damaging her image and calling fellow artist Justin Timberlake a cheater. Celebrity gossip media is not convinced that she's telling the truth, but if she is, this would be just another entry on what already starts to look like a long list of hacked high-profile Twitter accounts.

About a week ago, a picture of the young actress with her upper body parts covered only by her long hair was posted from her Twitpic account. Images uploaded on someone's Twitpic account are automatically posted on their corresponding Twitter feed. "OLD PHOTOS. I'm THAT bored @iambenlyons and @perezhilton," the associated message read.

Ms. Lohan later defended herself, saying that the picture was uploaded by her younger sister as a joke about the fact that her account was hacked. However, the weirdness did not stop there. A day later, a photo depicting Justin Timberlake dancing at a club with an unknown woman was posted on her Twitpic account. This picture was accompanied by a message reading, "So dark – where's jb cheater?."

Celebrity gossip blogs and publications picked up the story, causing Lohan to react nervously. "I would not discuss my personal life, let alone someone else’s, on the Internet!," she said, adding that, "Clearly! Twitter needs to fix their [expletive]. I didn’t write 'jb cheater!' What does that even mean? It's annoying."

Apparently angered by the incidents, the 22-year-old actress tried to communicate with the alleged hacker on her Twitter feed. "Stop trying to get onto my twitter page whoever you are! Its become extremely creepy!!!," she wrote. A later update reads, "I am back in LA and happy to be here. Hopefully the twitter impostor will twit off and leave my account alone."

"Without any evidence to the contrary I have to assume that Lindsay Lohan is telling the truth, and that her Twitter account was broken into. I'm going to take her at face value, and not surmise that maybe she invented the hacker excuse to cover-up a possibly embarrassing situation," Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at antivirus vendor Sophos, commented, before pointing out that Lindsay Lohan was the proud owner of one of those new Twitter "verified account" badges.
