It looks like Hulk Hogan will be flying solo from now on - news has just come out that his wife Linda Marie Bollea (Linda's married name) filed for divorce on Tuesday, November 20th against Terry Gene Bollea (the Hulk's legal name). To be honest, I have no idea what to say to this - I'm surprised, of course, and I certainly wasn't expecting it, but since we don't yet know the reason for the divorce, I can't make up my mind whether this is a decision made in the spur of the moment or whether it's the result of tension building up over a longer interval.

The fact is, I was sort of thinking the Hogans would stick close together under the current rather grim circumstances. I'm sure you all know by now that the youngest of the couple's children, 17 year-old Nick, is currently at the heart of a huge scandal that could have disastrous consequences and could even see him sent to jail for a long period of time. Earlier this year (in August, to be more precise) Nick Hogan was involved in a serious car crash in which his yellow Toyota Supra hit a palm tree full-on in Clearwater, Florida. It was later discovered that not only had Nick been drinking at the time of the accident, but he also had a long history of speeding and it is believed that at the time of the accident he was actually involved in a drag race with another car.

In the wake of the accident, the Hogans - Nick's mother Linda, father Hulk and sister Brook - have firmly supported their son/brother, who was arrested about two weeks ago and had reckless driving charges filed against him. It is widely acknowledged that while Nick emerged from the crash with only a few scratches, many hold him responsible for the fate of the man who was with him in the front seat of the car at the time of the accident. John Graziano, Nick's older friend and passenger, has suffered serious brain damage and has been in a vegetative state ever since the crash, with little hopes for improvement.

It was a difficult time for Nick's family, especially since the media was quick to point out a few painful truths, such as the fact that Nick's parents had been way to lenient with their son, allowed him to fancy himself a race car driver and fostered his passion for excessive speed. The final straw to what was largely perceived as irresponsible behavior was the fact that the Hogans tried to defend Nick by issuing a statement in which they implied that Nick's passenger, John, was to blame for his own state, since he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Recently, Linda Hogan herself came under even closer scrutiny, as a video shot three years ago emerged earlier this week showing her with her daughter Brooke in the passenger seat engaging in drag racing and proclaiming her passion and admiration for the dangerous and illegal sport. Easy to see that the pressure has been building up - and maybe Linda is just looking for a way out of the whole mess. A divorce, however, is only likely to add more tension to the already delicate situation in the Hogan household. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next.
