The Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC has been temporarily closed down over someone throwing paint on it.

The AP reports that the statue of the 16th United States president, Abraham Lincoln, has been vandalized with green paint.

U.S. Park Police Capt. Steven Booker has described finding the traces of paint this morning. Officials believe that the paint was thrown on it during the night.

As you can observe in the photo posted above, the paint was poured on the leg and base of the monument. Police have no leads as to who could have been trying to deface the large statue.

No others signs of vandalism, such as graffiti or writing have been observed on site. CCTV footage is available and will be analyzed to find the people responsible for the incident.
