Quite an expensive exclusive

For those of you who don't know, Dead Space is a third person survival horror game developed by Electronic Arts. It puts you in the shoes of a space ship engineer called Isaac Clarke who is forced to battle a race of aliens called Necromorphs, and all of his battles will take place on a ship gravely damaged by this species.

In terms of actual gameplay, a distinct feature is that you will have to navigate portions of the ship that don't have gravity, all the while being chased by the aliens. Slated for release on October 14, the game promises to be quite innovative, with developers hoping to achieve the popularity of another survival game, Bioshock. In anticipation to the release, EA has recently announced that it will launch a special limited edition version of the game, for only 150 dollars (!).

What do you get for all your hard earned money? Well for starters, the actual game, and the interesting features, as found on the EA store, are: "Special Ultra Limited Edition packaging," a DVD with the animated movie entitled Dead Space: Downfall, another DVD containing special bonus content, a 97 page artbook containing illustrations of various environments and creatures in the game, and a 160 page graphic novel. All this, plus a special patch from the crew of the Ishimura, the ship where you'll have your adventure.

Pretty interesting stuff, but is it enough to make me spend 150 dollars on it? Not quite. However, there will definitely be enough fans who will gladly spend the cash necessary for such exclusive stuff. Although the game promises quite a lot, with several interesting aspects in terms of gameplay, the price of killing aliens on a stranded ship and watching some extra DVDs is a bit too high for me. Also, this edition has been announced for the Xbox 360, with no word of a PlayStation 3 version in the works.
