The developers of LimeWire X, the Mac version of the popular P2P, file-sharing client, have released a new beta version of the software, implementing open source contributor Gregorio Roper's Matching TigerTrees to SHA-1 patch to improve downloads.

Besides the aforementioned addition improving downloads via the Matching TigerTrees to SHA-1 patch, the team of developers has decided to also increase the number of videos the Limewire Media Player can play with Windows 7. PC fans and users of Microsoft’s latest Windows version are told that integration is still in the early stages, but they are encouraged to inform the development team of any bugs they may find.

A Mac-specific fix can also be spotted in the release notes – “Fix exceptions when viewing videos in the Media Player for Mac OS X.” A similar issue has been fixed on the Windows front as well. The new beta also adds keyboard shortcut keys for the Media Player when viewing videos in full-screen mode. Those are the Space bar, to pause/resume, and ESC, to exit.

LimeWire X is a free, P2P, file-sharing program that uses the Java platform to locate and share all kinds of files over the Internet. As one of the few solutions of its kind for the Mac, it is compatible with all major platforms. The program’s open source code was developed (in part) by a devoted programmer community. The code is freely available to the public.

“LimeWire is the world's most popular peer-to-peer file-sharing program,” the people in charge with developing the program say. “With over 70 million unique monthly users, the software is downloaded hundreds of thousands of times every day and boasts millions of active users at any given moment. LimeWire uses the BitTorrent protocol and the Gnutella network to provide an unparalleled searches and download speed to the user,” Lime Wire LLC explains. “As always, LimeWire takes the security of its users very seriously and will never bundle spyware, adware, or viruses. Thank you for choosing LimeWire!” the message addressing all users of the platform goes.
