To block illegal files

One of the most popular P2P networks has decided to implement filters that block the swapping of copyright infringing files. Having 2 million users, Limewire is determined to stay out of the courts of law and to remain online.

The programmers in charge of the LimeWire client are planning to introduce two filters: cc_reverify_interval-branch and cc-publish-branch. The first filter is designed to verify the shared files. If they are not licensed, the user won't be allowed to include them in the file-sharing list.

The second one is designed for the files which represent personal creations and those who will choose to share such files, will have the possibility to attach a Creative Commons License, which certifies the ownership of that creation.

Currently none of them are finalized, but as Slyck.com informs, both of them are almost ready to be included in the LimeWire client.

LimeWire was one of the seven file-sharing networks which got a cease&desist warning from RIAA.
