14 DAY TRIAL // Two of the most popular P2P (peer-to-peer) file-sharing clients for Mac have received maintenance updates, which users are advised to download and install, to enhance the reliability and stability of their preferred program. The updates to Limewire and Transmission for Mac are free, as are the original applications themselves.
LimeWire is a free, P2P, file-sharing program that uses the Java platform to locate and share all kinds of files over the Internet. As one of the few solutions of its kind for the Mac, it is compatible with all major platforms. The program’s open source code was developed (in part) by a devoted programmer community. The code is freely available to the public. While LimeWire 5.5.6 only fixes an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds exception when downloading, Transmission 1.92 delivers quite a number of changes for its fan base.
Transmission is a BitTorrent client more similar to Vuze, rather than LimeWire. It is also a popular P2P file-sharing application. Its (select) code is licensed under the liberal MIT License. However, Transmission is generally licensed under the GNU General Public License. The program boasts a simple, intuitive interface designed to integrate tightly with any OS.
It allows you to efficiently ration commodity, only slowing down your system when you actually focus on it. Transmission is a Universal Binary, suitable for both Intel and PowerPC Macs. According to the release notes for Transmission 1.92, the following changes have been made by the development team:
