Limbo, the hit downloadable game that appeared last year for the Xbox 360 platform, is scheduled to make its way onto the PlayStation 3 and PC ones later this month.

Limbo was originally developed by Playdead last year as a dark, artistic, two-dimensional platformer where a boy needed to make his way through a dark world while avoiding traps, dangers and monstrous creatures like giant spiders.

The title impressed a lot of Xbox 360 owners and quickly made it to the top of the Xbox Live Arcade charts, becoming the highest grossing downloadable game of the year 2010, beating other major releases like Super Meat Boy, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, or Monday Night Combat.

It also earned quite a lot of awards from industry contests like the Game Developers Conference, Develop or Interactive Achievement Awards.

Now, it seems that the dark platformer is heading to other platforms, including the PC and PlayStation 3 ones.

The first announcement appeared from the official PlayStation Twitter account, which confirmed that Limbo is coming to its PlayStation Network online service as a downloadable title, while the founder of Playdead, Dino Patti, added that it was also arriving to the Steam digital service soon.

The PlayStation account even added an estimated release date, saying that PS3 owners are going to enter the mystical world of Limbo this month, probably towards the end of it.

Patti hasn't disclosed any other details about Limbo for the PlayStation 3 or PC, and, at least for now, the website of the game is down, probably because of the massive influx of visitors that wanted to know more about it before it appeared for the two aforementioned platforms.

Expect more official details in the following weeks about this interesting downloadable game and when it makes its appearance on the PSN and Steam digital distribution services.
