Taking selfies with your smartphone is outdated

Do you like taking your selfies using your trusty smartphone? Well, that’s bound to become quite an outdated activity soon. Forget the annoying selfie stick too, the selfie drone is here to take its place.

A company founded by a group of graduates from Berkeley University in California believes it will hit jackpot with its latest Lily consumer drone that’s basically a cute quad-copter that has been designed to fly around and snap images of you while you pose for it with your entire body.

Actually, Lily is quite an interesting addition to the drone family, as owners will be able to simply throw it in the air and go about their daily business, while the little flying companion will follow them around shooting high-definition video and pictures.

Would you fancy a flying GoPro?

The company says Lily would also be perfect for skiers, snowboarders and other sport enthusiasts. Think of it as a GoPro alternative that instead of being strapped to your helmet, follows you around and takes full body imagery of your extreme sport acts. On top of that, we should also mention that Lily is waterproof.

The device is able to shoot 1080p HD video at 60fps or 720p video at 120fps, in addition to snapping 12MP photographs. As it usually happens with drones, the flying gizmo doesn’t have a long flight cycle. You’ll have to charge it for two hours to make it stay up in the air for 20 minutes. Then, you will need to recharge it again.

Lily can fly at a maximum of 15 m / 49 ft and a minimum of 1.74 m / 5.7 ft above the owner’s head, so you can rest assured accidents will be avoided. Owners will need to wear a tracking device, which helps Lily keep track of their location throughout the day.

Lily is already up for pre-order

If Lily sounds good to you, you should know that pre-orders for this friendly drone are already open and you can secure a flying item for $499 / €444. Interested parties will be charged immediately for their purchases and not upon delivery, something the company says will help them “reduce risk.”

Once Lily launches as a consumer product, the price will rise to $999 / €889, so if you want a taste of this unique device, you’d better pre-order it now.
