For once, there was something that came out of Lily Allen's mouth that was not complete crap, and this makes us all feel optimistic to the point of foolishness, wondering whether there really is some hope left for her not growing to be a 20-year old grandma. Lily has joined the list of celebrities that speak out against designers who insist on allowing younger, skinnier models to front their clothing lines. And although Lily's latest drunken escapades (not to mention making a fool of herself at the GQ Men of the Year Awards) have made it kind of hard for her to be taken seriously, at some remote level she might actually have a point.
Lily's accusations (taken by some to be caused by nothing but bitter jealousy) are aimed directly at supermodel Kate Moss, whose Topshop range hit the market just a few days before Allen's New Look line. As a result, Lily admits that she was made to feel very insecure about her looks and her weight. "I felt I'd been set up and it shook me. All of the body-image issues I struggle with on a daily basis came up", she stated for Cosmopolitan.
"I'm a size 10 with a size eight top and made to feel fat next to someone like Kate Moss. What makes me angry is I let it happen. I'm not super-skinny, so in 'Fameland' I'm fat Lily Allen", she adds. Although we're all way too tired of her bitching around, I think we could take a minute to consider what she's saying. Forget the "poor me, I'm so miserable now" act - that's trademark Lily and is not to be taken too seriously. But in the end, it all comes down to the whole "supermodels against normal people" routine.
And of course Lily feels put down - most women out there definitely don't have Kate Moss' figure - they probably drink in a year the amount of alcohol Moss drinks during a couple of nights of hard partying, but that's a different story. And while skinny is the way to be at the moment, Lily feels she can at least try to make a difference. "It's now my ambition to get all those skinny-arsed bitches off the covers of magazines and get normal people on them". Anything, as long as you keep your mouth shut and you stick to the music and the clothes. Do we have a deal?
