14 DAY TRIAL // Although she recently announced that she would take a break from music and the spotlight altogether, Lily Allen continues to make headlines with being her usual outspoken self. In a recent interview, for instance, the British singer said there was no way of comparing Lady Gaga and Britney Spears because the latter is a “legend,” as Breathe Heavy can confirm.
The Britney Spears fansite got a hold of several mag scans, including one in which Allen puts interviewers in their place for comparing the two performers. According to her, there is no denying Lady Gaga is good but she still has a very long way to go until to even dream of being as big as Britney Spears. With this in mind, comparing them is as futile as it is ridiculous.
“You can not compare Britney with Lady GaGa.” Allen begins by saying. She then moves on to explain on what she founds her affirmation. “Why? You are putting Lady Gaga at the same level of Britney Spears? I really cannot believe it. Lady Gaga is good, but she’s a new artist, Britney Spears is a legend. They are two different artists, two forms of entertainment but very different, is like comparing Picasso to Dali.” the singer adds.
However, fans note that the quote might have been taken out of context, which renders it somewhat of a nuance that Allen is implying Spears is a better singer than Gaga. Speaking strictly in terms of staying power, the latter still has to prove she has it, whereas many years in the spotlight and on the pop scene have more than shown the world that Britney Spears is not going anywhere anytime soon, having often been compared to a younger version of the iconic Madonna.
From this perspective, yes, there is little room to draw a comparison between the two. As for talent and who is better, that is for fans only to decide and not Lily Allen or anyone else to say.
