Morning sickness is among the many ailments that can turn a pregnancy into a genuine nightmare, as many women who have lived through it can surely testify. In some cases, morning sickness can even threaten the health of both mother and child, when it develops into something known as hyperemesis gravidarum. Because she too has suffered from this, mother of three Denise Soden has come up with the idea for Lillipops Iced Soothies.

Retailing for £6.25 a box of 20 such iced treats, the Lillipops are meant to work wonders in more ways than one: they fight off nausea and satisfy a craving for sweet, while also being extremely useful in case of heartburn or a dry mouth. Moreover, they are all natural and contain no coloring or flavor agents, which makes them ideal during pregnancy since they pay heed to the health of both the baby and the mother. Because of the many flavors they come in and their refreshing quality, the Lillipops can also make for a fixture in anyone’s fridge, not just a pregnant woman’s.

“Lillipops are naturally flavored and specially formulated ice pops for pregnant women. Free from artificial colorings and flavorings, they ease nausea & heartburn, alleviate dry mouth, provide energy and are an overall soothing and comforting way to ease you through your morning sickness. Each Lillipops multipack contains 5 delicious flavors: Lemon & Mint, Grapefruit & Tangerine, Ginger, Lime & Vanilla and Camomile & Orange.” a brief description of the product says on the official webpage.

Soden reveals she came up with the idea for the Lillipops when she was pregnant with her first child and had such severe bouts of nausea and vomiting it literally made her pregnancy a living nightmare. In fact, she states, the experience was so traumatizing she actually had to wait for another seven years before trying for a baby again, lest she would go through the same type of experience. During her second pregnancy (with daughter Lilly, wherefrom the name of the iced soothies), she found that ice helped her with her morning sickness and she started combining flavors to see which one worked best.

“I suffered a lot when I was expecting Ben, it was a real nightmare time. The hyperemesis gravidarum saw me being sick about 2,500 times, I lost three stone in weight I was a complete mess. It was halfway through that pregnancy [with Lilly] I discovered that for some reason ice helped. […] When women are pregnant their tastebuds are heightened so when it came to coming up with the flavors for these we had to make sure they were quite subtle.” Soden says for the British media.

Clinical trials also show that the Lillipops Iced Soothies do their work as they say they do. Add to that the fact that they provide an almost instant energy boost, and there’s almost no reason why a pregnant woman shouldn’t give them a try.
