American rapper Lil Wayne suspended his Twitter account after hackers hijacked it and posted defamatory messages about himself and others.

It's not clear how attackers obtained access to Weezy's @liltunechi account, but it's clear they took the occasion to offend fellow musicians.

For example, one tweet addressed to Soulja Boy read: "I sent a donations to your paypal, check it, I heard you got 13,000 sales lil homie, i feel bad for you! #DamnSoulja."

The Game also got targeted in a tweet that read: "@thegame you still owe me money for that My Life joint, how your family crip but you blood."

However, the rapper quickly understood what was going on and replied with "so n!ggaz hacked @liltunechi twitter page. #simpleAZZniggas."

HipHopDX reports that hackers also changed the account name from @liltunechi to @lilchinetu and posted equally offensive tweets about Wayne himself.

Multiple accounts have appeared since the original one was closed down and all of them claim to be Lil Wayne's.

Some are clear fake, while others appear more credible. Either way, before believing anything it's better to wait for an official confirmation that the rapper switched accounts or quit Twitter altogether.

It wouldn't be the first time Wayne would should a willingness to quit Twitter. Last year he was very upset after someone hijacked his account in a similar fashion and announced a fake concert with Nicki Minaj.

"I was just mad that somebody went on my Twitter, like that’s my personal Twitter!” the rapper said after he had to dispel rumors of an upcoming show.

"If nothing else, this case proves that just because a Twitter account is 'verified' it doesn't mean that it really is the celebrity (or an authorised representative) who is doing the tweeting," Graham Cluley, a senior technology consultant at Sophos, noted.

Many celebrities have had their Twitter accounts hacked in the past, some of them even on multiple occasions.
