Not even the biggest names in the music industry are spared the headache and the trouble of record label bosses who have different agendas. Rapper Lil Wayne, whose Young Money imprint is now part of Cash Money records, is at war with the latter over plans for his already long-delayed album “Tha Carter V.”

Unlike many other artists before, Lil Wayne too is going public with the record label feud as a means to excuse himself to the fans for not being able to keep his word to them, and thus show that the blame lies somewhere else.

Cash Money would not comment on the allegations at this time.

“Tha Carter V” should have been out already

Lil Wayne said some time ago that this album would be his last solo material, so naturally, he wanted to give it his best. Though it should have been out earlier this year, fans didn’t mind it that much when it was pushed back, because the rapper went to the trouble of explaining to them that this was necessary because he wanted to deliver his best possible.

At the very least, they got to hear a single off it. And then another. And then one more.

The other day, more than a month after the October deadline set for release, Lil Wayne went off on Twitter against Cash Money, which was barring him from releasing the album. This way, he also explained why the delays and the complete radio silence on a new release date.

“A prisoner”

According to the rapper, label co-founder Baby and Cash Money are “refusing” to release the album, which is probably finished by now. Lil Wayne says that he’s tired of the same ol’ routine and wants “off this label” so he won’t have to deal with this kind of people anymore.

However, he admits, he can’t do much about it, probably because of his contract. Word online right now is that he’s gearing up for a lawsuit against the label, which would free him from his obligations towards them.

Other artists in similar a position took rebellion to the max and leaked their own music or released it for free, as a way to get back at the label without being punished for it.

“I am a prisoner and so is my creativity. Again, I am truly sorry and I don't blame ya if ya fed up with waiting for me and this album. But thank you,” Lil Wayne says.

A harsh reality

The fact that this is happening to Lil Wayne, one of the most respected, influential, and successful rappers on the scene right now proves that showbiz isn’t half as glamorous as it might appear to someone looking to break in.

Artists might be talented and original and whatever other attribute under the sun you can think of, but the last thing they are is free to call their own shots, because this type of decisions are only made by the guy with the bigger wallet, who usually happens to be a record label executive.

So next time you hear a pop star bragging about how they’re “genuine” and not “manufactured” and in total control, remember this: when Lil Wayne can’t release the album he’d like to release, they are definitely in no position of control.
