They can be used to heal the character and gain more time for quests

The development team at Square Enix working on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII says that gamers will have to manage two kinds of in-game points, Glory and Radiance, in order to complete the core story of the game.

The team says that the major change over the previous Final Fantasy XIII is that Lightning is no longer able to automatically heal all her wounds after a battle and will have to spend some of her points in order to recover.

The game has no potions or spells that can add health and gamers will have to evaluate the Glory Points they get after each battle and how to use them.

Yuji Abe, a design director working on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, told Dengeki, as translated by Siliconera, that, “So to a degree, you’ll be able to go around fighting to recover your health.”

He added, “Stronger enemies will give you more GP, so it might be a good idea to take on a stronger enemy to cast a Curaga when your HP is looking low. Command-based battle systems allow you to use them as much as you’d like, but this time it may feel a little more restricted.”

Glory Points can also be used to move around the game world and open access to various areas but also to actually stop time.

Radiance Points are important because they can be used to extend the time that Lightning has to save the world from destruction.

They are also gained from quests and can be spent at the Tree of Life in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII in order to get more days to explore the world and solve certain important challenges.

The Square Enix team has already said that players will have to abandon some quests in order to complete the main storyline.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be out in February 2014 on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
