Square Enix has released a new trailer for its upcoming installment in the Final Fantasy series, Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

The video details some of the key features of the new title, functioning as a guided tour for both old and new gamers alike.

Along with never-before-seen in-game footage, the trailer comes with a narration track that outlines the game premise, the diversity of the world of Nova Crystallis, the rebuilt battle system, the time-driven quests, the new dungeons, the better character control and the open-world nature of the whole gaming experience.

Players will be available to take pictures and share them with the built-in social system, as well as being able to gather resources and buy items crafted by other players.

The direct character control improvements include sprinting, rolling, sliding and jumping, in order to make navigating through the world a more intuitive experience.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII has already been launched in Japan, and is due for launch in February 2014, in the rest of the world.
