The development team at Square Enix says that gamers who play the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be able to completely wipe up species of creatures in the world as long as they are ready to devote time to exploration and hunting.

Players who try to eliminate a species will, after a while, meet a monster labeled Last One, which will be tougher to defeat but it will also deliver rare loot.

Gematsu says that the mechanic is designed to make the world of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII feel more lifelike.

After completing the single player once, gamers will be able to enter a harder mode that will give all enemies a better set of abilities and will add new items to all shops.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be launched on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 in February 2014.
