Motomu Toriyama, the game director working on the most recent installment of Final Fantasy XIII, says that main character Lightning might appear in future titles in the franchise as a guest character, although the company is not yet ready to announce any official plans.

He is quoted by Siliconera as stating that, "her story ends here in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, as this game is meant as a finale to this series. But we know that Lightning is an extremely popular character, even when compared to other Final Fantasy characters."

We know that at the moment Square Enix is working on a Final Fantasy XV title which will be offered on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft, with details set to be offered later during the year.

The company is also running a MMO based on the franchise and it would be easy to integrate Lightning into one of the storylines.
